Every year, we celebrate the day we were born into this life.

There may be gifts and special meals, birthday cake and candles. We sing the birthday song. We make a wish.

And then we blow out the candles and another year begins.

I’ve come to think of my birthday as a kind of personal Stargate—a moment when I can consciously connect with my higher self, my ancestors, my angels, my soul star, and the mystery of what is waiting to unfold.

It’s a portal that opens only once during the entire rotation of the sun.

It would be very easy to let that moment pass without noticing.

I did that for many years.

So many birthdays came and went before I began to feel the particular energy of that day—to sense that something was opening, however quietly, and inviting me to pay attention.

Now I like to mark my birthday differently.

I choose a tarot card. I make cacao. I light a honey candle. And always, there is a crystal.

Each year, I welcome a new crystal friend to journey with me through the year ahead.
