Scattering light at the Solstice

The Summer Solstice is a very special and powerful time. In the northern hemisphere It happens when the North Pole is at its maximum tilt towards the sun, receiving the most light of any day of the year and sitting at its highest point in the noonday sky.

It is an important day across the planet, guiding farmers, marking a seasonal change, and holding the most light of any day of the year. For some it is a sacred day, full of magic, and rich with beautiful customs and rituals.

This Solstice Crystal

Every year at the solstice, I tune in to see which crystal is singing for us. Which one wants to guide us, support us, or offer us a message at this special time.

This year, it was Rutilated quartz who was sparkling just a little brighter than the others. This stone has always held a special place in my heart. I keep one close by and often turn to it in moments when my energy feels scattered and I need help focusing. 

It is kind of perfect that crystals who can help us to focus our energy are coming forward at this time. Solstice has been important to civilizations around the world for ages. Many of their sacred structures were built to capture and focus the sun’s light during seasonal alignments. And while Rutilated quartz can show us how to focus our energy with intention and purpose at any time, we can get an extra power boost during these planetary alignments.

A Message

These golden threaded crystals whispered a message to my heart:

Focus is a choice.

It’s not just about discipline or concentration—it’s about intentionally choosing where we place our attention. Focus is a convergence of heart, mind, body. From that space, we’re able to make decisions more easily and move forward with confidence and clarity. 

Life is all about making choices

Wavering

I remember something a spiritual advisor once told me, when I was conflicted over the teachings of my faith and wavering back and forth in my belief. They simply said:

“Make a choice one way or another and stay with it.”

If we choose a path and it ends up not being the right one—we will know for sure that this is not for us and we can turn around. But if we keep shifting—left, right, left again—we end up going in circles and never getting anywhere. Constantly changing direction, will have us feeling lost.

Untempted

When we are clearer about where we are going, we get clearer on who we are. Then, when temptations and distractions come, we will be able to stay focussed. There’s such power in that kind of clarity. There’s great beauty in that kind of clarity. We are shown a glimpse of that beauty from Rutilated quartz. 

If you look at the crystal, you see all these golden threads inside—each one moves in its own direction. They’re not trying to follow each other. Each one is straight and focused. If they were all oriented in the same direction, we wouldn’t be able to see the individual threads and magnificent patterns. It is the same for us. 

When we are following trends or friends, the things that makes us unique can’t be seen. We hide our light and then wonder why we feel invisible.

Unexpected

Another stone was harmonizing with the Rutilated crystal. The Nova Scotia blue agate Batman crystal that I shared with you on Father’s Day. It was an unexpected connection made clear in an unexpected way.

Last night, after going back and forth trying to pick something to watch, starting and stopping several shows, we finally settled on one—La Dolce Villa, a romcom set in a small Italian village. A young woman buys a run down villa for $1 and her father flies to Italy to rescue her from her impulsive choice. There are a couple of sweet scenes where she refers to him as “bat dad”.

The really crazy thing is that earlier, I had shown the Bat Man Father crystal to my husband—something I normally don’t do. Choosing to show him the crystal and then later choosing to watch that movie may be small choices, but show us the power in trusting the inner voice, even when it’s not logical or expected.

And now, in this moment, as I’m typing this, something was playing in the background that referenced Batman. 

Winks from the Universe

The solstice is a magical time, but all these sweet synchronicities that come like winks from the Universe, show us that we can still tap into the power of the alignment after it has passed.
