Cumberlandite is found in only one place on this Earth, within a 4-acre parcel in Cumberland, Rhode Island. It is believed to be approx. 600 million years old. Back then Rhode Island was part of a volcanic island arc called Avalonia and Cumberlandite formed when one of the Volcanoes erupted. Cumberlandite contains around 24 different minerals among which are olivine, magnetite, titanium and ilmenite. It is high in magnetite, giving it magnetic properties. I became interested in Cumberlandite when I watched an episode of America Unearthed in which forensic geologist, Wolter asserts that Cumberlandite is known as the “Stone of Venus,” and is connected to Templar symbolism of the divine female in the heavens, symbolized by the planet Venus. I haven't been able to find any further information on that but I was drawn to the stone regardless. I'm so pleased that I did. Cumberlandite is a magnificent stone. It is a heavy stone and offers incredible grounding properties. When it arrived, I took 3 or 4 of them and kept them close by at all time. They shared a powerful gift with me - one you'll no doubt discover when you have it near.

It has been used in debate situations to instill excellence and attention to detail. Cumberlandite has been used to impart a sense of purpose to ones activities and ones life path. It has been used in the treatment of disorders related to movement, mental acuity and strain, and uncontrolled nervous energy. It can assist in the treatment of disorders of the brain, the sympathetic nervous system and the thyroid and parathyroid glands.
