White Turquoise
White Turquoise. It really isn't turquoise.
Because it looks like the coveted blue stone, Howlite is sometimes dyed and sold as turquenite. It's a shame to mask this beautiful stone to make it look like another. Howlite has so many beautiful qualities of its own that should not be hidden or forgotten.
In fact, it is a stone that helps us remember.
The Brain Stone
This bright being is a brain stone. You can see it first in its form. The irregular, rounded nodules look like the pathways of a brain. And then, when you spend time with Howlite, you can feel its energy touch the mind.
Howlite has a way of softening the places where thought has become too loud.
The endless analyzing.
The criticism.
The quick reaction.
The little arguments we have with ourselves and with everyone else.
It seems to whisper: Wait. Look again. Listen.
There is a spaciousness in that.
A place where observation can meet reason, and reason can meet patience.
Where discernment becomes possible.
Where we don't have to believe every thought simply because it passed through our minds.
Howlite invites us to become quiet enough to hear what is beneath the thinking—to that place where wisdom begins.
In My Head
Howlite was singing for me earlier this week when I put out a call to the stone beings to help me with a headache. The remedies I usually reach for weren't helping, so I became still and listened.
And this beautiful white stone touched my mind.
It inspired me.
Another stone was singing with Howlite—a Hot Pink Healer.
I co-created a Star Song with these beautiful beings, an angel-kissed fusion of crystals and water. Something in that beautiful convergence sparked a shift in me.
My headache eased almost immediately.
I don't tell you this as a promise of what Howlite will do for you, nor do I expect it will happen again the next time I have a headache. Each experience is unique to the moment and the individual—and that means the remedy can change as well.
That's why it's important to learn to listen to the messages that arrive from the self or the Universe. And, perhaps even more importantly, to trust our bodies. There is always purpose to what shows up.
There was purpose to this unlikely duet, these two stones singing together.
The Unexpected Teacher
This wasn't the first time the intensely pink stone helped soothe my pain. I first heard it singing about a year ago, at a time when I was healing an injury to my hand. It appeared to me in a dream, and come morning, this vivid gem led me right to it.
It wasn't the kind of stone I would normally have chosen. It was dyed—and I didn't even think I had any dyed stones. Yet it became a companion during the healing of my hand, offering comfort in ways that were difficult to explain but impossible for me to ignore.
I couldn't have known then that this little pink stone would return with another gift—and a deeper message. Now, sitting with Howlite and the Hot Pink Healer, I could see the connection.
Both were stones that are often altered to make them more valuable. And it is this connection that offers us a glimpse of how we do the same to ourselves.
The Things We Make Ourselves Into
It is not just the stones that we change so that they will bring more value. We do this to ourselves. We try to change ourselves to be of more value.
We learn what is considered beautiful.
What is successful.
What is desirable.
What is acceptable.
And then, little by little, we begin to shape ourselves accordingly.
We soften our edges.
Hide our strangeness.
Change our colours.
Learn how to be easier to understand.
We become very good at looking like something the world already knows how to value.
And sometimes we forget to ask the quieter question:
What if there was never anything wrong with the original?
Howlite doesn't need to be turquoise. And Agate doesn't need to be hot pink. They are beautiful and valuable as they are.
They cannot be something else.
The dye may change their appearance. It doesn't change what they are. There is something profound in that. Because the same thing is true of us.
Beneath the roles.
Beneath the expectations.
Beneath the striving.
There is something pure and lovely. A part of us that has never needed to prove itself. Something that has been patiently waiting for you to remember.
Total Recall
This brain stone can help us to recall. Because the mind is where our forgetting begins.
The mind compares.
The mind judges.
The mind predicts what might happen if we are too much, too strange, too sensitive, too different.
The mind can become so busy helping us belong that we forget what belonging actually feels like.
Howlite offers another way.
Pause.
Observe.
Listen.
Discern.
And then choose.
It takes us to the quiet place that appears when the mind finally has enough room to breathe. That, to me, is the medicine of this beautiful white stone.
Not to give us more answers. But to clear enough space for us to hear our own voice. Our own wisdom.
And that, is Howlite's song...
To be beautiful.
To be valuable.
Simply be.
