Glitter Crystals

A crystal was singing.

One that glittered like stars scattered across the night sky.

It was Hematite. Specular Hematite, to be more precise. Hematite with a shimmer. A sparkle. A flash of something almost celestial.

And there were two expressions of it here.

One was Hematite all on its own—a silvery stone that caught the light and scattered it back in a thousand tiny sparks.

The other was Hematite resting on Smoky Quartz, its metallic shimmer wrapped around the deep, smoky earth.

Two expressions. One ancient essence. Singing together.

So I listened. And as I listened, I began to sense that the sparkle was only the beginning. There was something deeper here. A story about strength and softness. About knowing what belongs to us and releasing what doesn't. About standing in the midst of change without losing ourselves.

And, unexpectedly, about bloodlines.

The Stone of Inner Strength

Hematite knows something about transformation.

Born when iron meets oxygen, it carries the strength of one and the breath of the other—a meeting that transforms something hard into something entirely new.

Perhaps that is why Hematite feels so grounding.

It helps quiet the noise of an overactive mind so we can hear what is truly ours.

What we believe.
What we choose.
What we are ready to leave behind.

Its mirror-like surface offers another kind of wisdom: the ability to reflect back what does not belong to us.

The expectations.
The projections.
The energy we have unknowingly taken on from others.

Hematite gently asks:

What is mine to carry—and what is not?

It is a stone of clarity, focus, protection, and inner resolve. A reminder that strength does not always have to be hard.

Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is become quiet enough to know what is true.

Hematite helps us return to ourselves—to find stillness within change, to ground our dreams in the body, and to cultivate what might be called a will of iron. Not the will to force life into submission. The will to consciously choose our way forward.

A Bloodline Runs Through It

There is something ancient about Hematite's relationship with blood.

Its very name comes from the ancient Greek word haima, meaning blood or blood-like.

And there is a beautiful secret hidden inside the stone.

Hematite may appear silvery-black on the outside, but when it is scratched against a hard surface, it leaves behind a vivid red streak. Its true colour revealed.

Blood.

It made me think about blood not only as something that moves through our bodies, but as lineage. Inheritance. The invisible thread connecting one life to another. The wisdom carried through generations. And I began to wonder if this was part of what Hematite was asking me to see.

What has been given to me?

What belongs to me?

What wisdom is mine to carry forward?

And what was never mine to carry at all?

Perhaps this is another reason Hematite feels so grounding. It helps us distinguish between what is ours and what has simply been placed upon us.

The Hematite That Emerges

When Hematite settles on Smoky Quartz, it does not disappear into the darkness. It emerges from it. Tiny sparks of metallic light wrapped around the deep, smoky earth.

There is something beautiful about this expression. It reminds me that not everything that is hidden is meant to remain hidden. Some things are waiting to be revealed.

Smoky Quartz carries the wisdom of the earth.

Deep, mysterious, and quietly protective, it is often associated with dissolving what has become heavy—old thought patterns, lingering emotions, and energies that no longer belong in our field. Then we see that it's deepest teaching is not protection at all. It is release.

Smoky Quartz reminds us that we don't have to carry everything we encounter. Some things are meant to move through us. Some things are meant to be let go.

There is a beautiful freedom in this.

We do not have to hold on to what we have outgrown in order to prove that it mattered.

And suddenly, the two expressions of Hematite seemed to be saying something together.

One catches the light.
The other emerges from the dark.

One reflects.
The other reveals.

Both are asking us to see more clearly.

To know what is ours.
To release what isn't.

And to trust what remains.

What the Stones Were Singing

The song I was hearing was not about becoming someone else, but about remembering.

Hematite asks:

What is mine?

Smoky Quartz asks:

What can I release?

And beneath both questions is something quieter:

What remains when I let go of what isn't mine?

Perhaps that is where our strength lives.

Not in holding everything together. Not in becoming harder. But in becoming clear.

Clear enough to know what belongs to us.
Clear enough to release what doesn't.
Clear enough to hear the quiet wisdom that has been there all along.

Perhaps the sparkle was only the invitation.

A little flash of light saying:

Look closer.

There is more here.

And sometimes the stones don't tell us where to go. Sometimes they simply help us remember that we are already on our way.
